 Who Is My Tech Coach?

My name is Ginny Britt and I am very excited to be a tech coach with Williamson County schools!

In the past, I have served as a preschool teacher and a high school librarian. As a librarian, I worked right here in Williamson County at Fairview High School.

I am in the process of completed a doctorate in Instructional Technology at The University of Tennessee. During my time at UT, I had the privilege of teaching undergraduate pre-service teachers a course on technology integration.

I am excited to be a part of WCS and to continue my journey in assisting teacher with technology integration!

 What Is Your Tech Coach?

Have you ever thought about how to approach Schelty's design qualities in your classroom? Effective use of technology in your lessons is a great way to "work on the work".

Marc Prensky, a leader of technology use in schools, states that "Our students have changed radically" and that in order for teachers to reach their students they must also change (2001). A technology coach is there to guide you in your endeavor to transform student learning by providing teachers and schools with customized instructional support and best practices technology instructional practices.

The technology coach is an effective strategy for focusing on technology integration as a way of meeting the No Child Left Behind goal to "improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools" (United States Department of Education, 2001).

How Can A Tech Coach Help Me?

The purpose of a technology coach is to assist teachers with effective use of technology in their classroom in order to improve student learning. In order to accomplish this, a technology coach is responsible for the following:

  • Conducting individual or small group teacher conferences on appropriate use of instructional technology in all content areas.
  • Modeling appropriate teaching strategies infusing technology in classrooms.
  • Demonstrating and promoting appropriate and ethichal use of technology with regard to privacy and copyright issues.
  • Providing up-to-date training on the technology tools in your school and their most effective use in the curriculum in order to meet district initiatives.
