 Who Is My Tech Coach?

My name is Sara Smith. I am excited about starting a Tech Coach position with Williamson County Schools. I have been teaching in Colorado for the past ten years. I have taught everything from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The past two years, I was an Information Communication Technologies Specialist. I Supported and mentored teachers in integrating technology into their classrooms, modeled 21st Century lessons in the classroom, developed and articulated a vision for staff development specifically related to Information and Communication Technologies within 21st Century skills, constructed learning environments, both physical and digital, ripe for ICT and collaborate with teachers to create learning assignments that are focused around 21st Century skills. I am ready to continue to develop what I know and what I am constantly learning with Williamson County Schools. I have an amazing team of Tech Coaches that I am learning from each day. I am so happy to begin work with all of BYOT teachers!

 What Is Your Tech Coach?

Have you ever thought about how to approach Schelty's design qualities in your classroom? Effective use of technology in your lessons is a great way to "work on the work".

Marc Prensky, a leader of technology use in schools, states that "Our students have changed radically" and that in order for teachers to reach their students they must also change (2001). A technology coach is there to guide you in your endeavor to transform student learning by providing teachers and schools with customized instructional support and best practices technology instructional practices.

The technology coach is an effective strategy for focusing on technology integration as a way of meeting the No Child Left Behind goal to "improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools" (United States Department of Education, 2001).

How Can A Tech Coach Help Me?

The purpose of a technology coach is to assist teachers with effective use of technology in their classroom in order to improve student learning. In order to accomplish this, a technology coach is responsible for the following:

  • Conducting individual or small group teacher conferences on appropriate use of instructional technology in all content areas.
  • Modeling appropriate teaching strategies infusing technology in classrooms.
  • Demonstrating and promoting appropriate and ethichal use of technology with regard to privacy and copyright issues.
  • Providing up-to-date training on the technology tools in your school and their most effective use in the curriculum in order to meet district initiatives.
